Artificial (Not So) Intelligence

AI Sucks

AI is the latest buzzword.

It’s the next “cloud.”

It’s in your product name.

It’s in your marketing material.

It’s an energy sink.

And… it’s not intelligent. It sucks…

… or does it?

I am starting this blog to explore and demystify AI. Here, I am starting with the assertion that AI sucks and will document my personal experience with a series of experiments and tests I will run to educate myself and attempt to change my own superficial impression that Artificial Intelligence is, in fact, a misnomer and would be more accurately called Simulated Intelligence.

I’ll start simple and discuss what AI is, what LLMs are. I’ll use common, freely available models like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, etc. I’ll run other LLMs locally in my home lab using different hardware to perform inferencing, and hopefully even enhancing and customizing them through training using methods such as fine-tuning, and RAG.
